An economic mis..interpretation can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes. June 28, 2009

The government will be accused of bailing out bankers while taking money off the poorest. Pleas that the economy must have functioning banks, and that Ireland’s welfare payments and public sector wages are higher than most other European countries, will be hard to hear in the racket.

Really? Which ones?

Benefits are higher in the Republic than in the UK. But that’s only because Thatcher eroded them so effectively there.
Public sector wages are higher but that reflects higher costs of living. Real wages (in marxist terms) are probably lower.
IMF want to reinforce government’s hard neo-liberalist policies.
