Here’s something not to be missed… an interview, one of a series conducted by Conor McCabe. It’s on Dublin Opinion and with John Throne, once of Militant. The first two parts are up and are a fantastic insight into how radicalism can develop in the context of the rural. For a real sense of the choices that faced people on the left in the North during the late 1960s and some remarkable anecdotes about figures such as Gerry Healy, well this is well worth a listen.

Again, this project by Conor is a fantastic and necessary addition to building an understanding of Irish left history. In a very short space of time he’s built up an Irish labour and working class oral history archive some of which will remain confidential and some which participants are happy to have made public, like John Throne.
