Some of this is better than usual. The central problem with it is that it can identify a whole load of things to complain about, but not a strategy to deal with any of them. That’s because the trade union bureaucracy have no strategy beyond begging to be let back into partnership.

the online joining bit is interesting – some unions give the impression they are not too pushed about letting people join

And a friend of mine had trouble getting into a union when he started work at his job, a year before there was nary a hint of industrial action.

Happened to watch David Trimble (yes I know) sing the praises of the Irish governments economic policy this evening.
He was praising the governments strategy of continued wage deflation.
What struck me was that what we hear from the government is all about ‘competitiveness’ rather than them being more honest and saying we need to cut wages across the board.
If Trimble can see it, what must the Irish Government be saying to all their pals in the EU abou reducing Irish Workers wages.

Thinking about it afterwards (on the walk from the bus) the whole deflationary strategy makes the NAMA ‘haircut’ even worse. If incomes are down, then property values etc should fall at a corresponding rate.

So the governments policies may in part contradict each other…
