Inez McCormack – ‘Equality and Human Rights – Fighting injustice from Below’
Inez is a renowned human rights and trade union activist of some forty years standing. As a former head of UNISON, she also became the first ever female President of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. She famously played a leading role in enshrining the McBride principles for Fair employment for the North of Ireland after a long campaign. She still works across the world as a human rights activists and also works on a part-time basis for the PPR (Participation and Practice of Rights project) in North Belfast, which use human rights tools to empower marginalized communities to campaign on their own behalf.
The talk will take place in Gort na Móna CLG, Springfield Road, Belfast.
Thanks to C for passing this along to the CLR.

Why, when this champion of human rights was president of Ictu did she ignore me when I wrote to her about the abuse of human rights at Belfast Docks? Was it because the abuse was carried out by so-called trade union officials. One in particular, Jim Austin, was chairman of the union but turned traitor and joined the employers. Why did Inez not expose THE FACT that this employer remained a Union Member and attended the only union meeting the dockers were allowed to hold, the AGM.
This champion of human rights should not be embarrassed by the Dying Belfast Dockers. Dying because their union ordered them to discharge Asbestos without protection – to save the employers money. Something which the trade union movement of which she’s so proud is covering up.
While clapping herself on the back, this champion of human rights will be delighted by the NIHRC. Monica McWilliams says they cannot investigate the Dying Dockers because the union was and is based in Dublin. AND the Dublin based IHRC say they cannot investigate because the event complained of happened in NI which is outside their jurisdiction. YET they can investigate abuses of human rights which happen thousands of miles away!
The human rights champion Inez McCormick is like all the other so-called champions of human rights in Ireland – A PUPPET OF CAPATILISM.
The ‘Nelson’s Eye’ doctrine which Inez ‘McCormick promote has been around for a long time. The most public of its exponents is Fintan O’Toole {who has a wonderful article in today’s Irish Times on the corrupt of the Catholic Church}.
O’Toole and Irish Times have steadfastly refused to report on the anti worker ethos of the Trade Union Movement.
At the Transparency International launch of their of their document on protection for whistleblowers, I questioned O’Toole {who chaired the event} on his blind eye perspective. In reply he cited the defamation laws and that they could be taken to court. From the floor a lady {a prominent whistleblower, stated, that she’d have been glad to be taken to court, and asked “can they take you to court if it’s the truth?” O’Toole hesitated, then said: “in certain circumstances”. Many whistleblowers reacted to this, many saying I wish they’d taken me to court!
In no uncertain terms, I told O’Toole that he and his paper are covering up corruption. The room full of whistleblowers agreed with me. My questioning of O’Toole was recorded and posted on Transparency Internationals website and on youtube BUT it has been deleted. Anyone viewing these videos can ascertain the exact place it has been deleted from. A gentleman spoke after me and said he was also a DOCKER but a Dublin one. He went on to relate how he’d been barred from three swimming pools for speaking the truth.
This is still on the recording.
I don’t know if Inez was supporting Fintan and his Blind Eye philisopy on the day, but I’m sure some Siptu Officials were there.
Hugh
Can you put those recordings back on the net?
Can I please recommend that you read the World Socialist Web Site: (http://www.wsws.org/)
You might already know this site? They take the position that the trade union movement is a giant impediment in the way of the working class; that the working people must organise outside the trade unions.
Hi Mervyn,
I’ve just discovered that my website showing the documents PROVING
SIPTU’s corruption has been closed down by someone – probably Jack O’Connor or some of his Stanalist cronies – like Inez McCormick or the guy who runs Transparency International, I can’t remember his name. This roomful of whistleblowers heard him try and silence me, and save O’Toole’s face when he said: “we are really concerned about the Dying Belfast Dockers but could we have a coffee afterwards and discuss them”. OR it could well have been the champion of freedom of speech {as long as you say what he wants to hear} O’Toole, himself – as I hear he’s a wizard with computers and the web.
I will contact Arthur Rafferty, one of the Dying Belfast Dockers and see if these documents can be put on http://www.justicefordockers.com.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Mervyn.
Mr Murphy,
I have read your posts on various sites and would be interested in finding out more about one person in particular the former chairman of the docks Bobby Dickey.
I saw some details on one of your posts regarding a court case and the fact that he was put oit of the New Lodge.
I made a note of the date that you mentioned (4/8/1992) and contacted the North Belfast News to try to get a copy of the paper that carried the story. They checked thier archives but nothing was showing.
Can i ask you to check these details as i would be very interested in reading this story.
Thanks for your help
Unfortunately this event has had to be postponed as Inez is currently stranded in South Africa as a result of the air travel chaos. Another date for the date will be organised as soon as possible.
