I for one welcome our new political overlords*… but isn’t this a bit meta? Or, politics will eat itself. February 24, 2011

Quoting Stephen Collins to validate a campaign?

No?

*with the obvious caveats…

The banner does not have, Advertisement, as an identifier above it unlike the Vote Fine Gael logo, it’s almost like an endorsement.

WorldbyStorm - February 24, 2011

Interesting point. I wonder if there’s a legal aspect to it or not.

HAL - February 24, 2011

No it’s just clever placement, the banner is not on the news paper, just an add on the web page. But it smacks of a partnership,as Fine Gael couldn’t have placed that add without knowing what Collins was going to say.Sad for the Times really.

WorldbyStorm - February 24, 2011

That’s true. But you’re right, it looks odd.

I for one welcome a well placed Kent Brockman hommage.

WorldbyStorm - February 24, 2011

I for one second that, however self-serving it may be for me!

There’s so much FG advertising online, it must be costing them an awful lot (or more accurately, they have an awful lot to spend). It will be interesting to see the disclosures after the election :)

So much of the FG digital media (that Ireland 2.0 poster, the Valentine’s, that game) is utterly laughable but you never know if it will have a positive effect on some. But the saturation of FG imagery/’message’ online I can imagine being a factor in their vote. In a way it’s not too different from FF last time round, massive ad campaigns on anything and everything, but this time it’s starting to remind me of US-level mass electioneering.

I for one welcome anyone who calls themselves gabbagabbahey.

+1

Looking through the constituencies and how they may break down, is it possible that Dublin North West might be the only constituency not to return a FG TD?

Joe - February 24, 2011

Good question, comrade. Hopefully not. Dublin Central?
Any others?
Any chance of 2 Lab, 1 SF in DNW?

alastair - February 24, 2011

Pascal Donohue would be doing very badly indeed not to take a seat in Dublin Central.

WorldbyStorm - February 24, 2011

I kind of think you’re right. At least some of the former Bertie vote, particularly its ‘middle class’ aspect will detach to FG I’d think, because Ahern’s appeal was pretty wide. Mind you, that goes for TG’s former vote too.

You’re a MAC USER!?!

WorldbyStorm - February 24, 2011

Yes, it is true… :)

6. John O'Neill - February 24, 2011

I predict for DNW Lab 1, SF 1 and Carey FF fighting one of the two FGers.

7. John O'Neill - February 24, 2011

fighting for the last seat

8. HAL - February 24, 2011

I think Tormey will get the last seat,as he will pick up transfers from everywhere.
