Deluded Bertie and his expenses August 29, 2011

Bertie gave an interview to Dublin City University’s student radio station DCUfm last July.
Its covered in a number of media outlets. Amongst the various gems the Irish Times piece says
Mr Ahern confirmed he considered running in the election.
“I still would have done all right. I mean they have done some figures and I would probably sit in around 30 per cent, which you haven’t a hope with as the party is on 20 per cent.”
He added that “the party popularity is the thing that snookers it, because if your party isn’t winnable…”
Mr Ahern said: “If there was no downturn and if it wasn’t all the hassle of the tribunals and everything else, then you could have had a good run at it.”
That was in July, as Bertie possibly waited for a call from Michael Martin to stand. Then over the weekend we get the news that Bertie has over the last three years
claimed €265,000 for secretarial assistance.
Oddly enough
By comparison, other retired Taoisigh claim relatively tiny amounts in expenses.
It has also emerged that Bertie has endorsed Gay Mitchell! With friends like that who needs enemies.
I think Bertie’s endorsement is a way to sabotage FG’s Presidential ambitions. You have to hand it to FF, they do intrigue like a Florentine nobleman.

Breaking News: Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is still an deluded tosser!
It’s strange though that he did endorse Mitchell. Another possibility is that he’s trying deliberately to break with FF before they break with him when the Mahon report is published.
