This Weekend I’ll Mostly Be Listening to… Martin Stephenson and The Daintees February 4, 2012

I lived in Cork for a while in the mid 90s….. and it was there in 1995 where one of my musical highlights to date took place.
A ‘Lock in’ at my local pub with Martin Stephenson and The Prayer Boat playing until morning to maybe ten or twenty of us. I’d a few albums, seen him a few times in Dublin and it was just a fantastic night (and morning).
Stephensons albums can have anything from rockabilly to folk and at this stage he has countless albums to his name. Some with The Daintees and others like the one recorded with The Prayer Boat and the Devlins during that tour where I saw him in Cork. Hes a fairly regular visitor to Ireland and is a jolly character and his shows are well worth seeing.
Stephensons most famous song is probably “Wholly Humble Heart” which received some airplay in the 80s.
As is often the case with artists I like not too much of the stuff is up on Youtube. I’ve uploaded a few things myself but alas some of my favourites are on tape and I don’t have anything to transfer them to digital format (although that is due to be remedied soon for a special TWIBMLT). So I just chose a number of tunes that were available. Some of them would be obscure enough even for Stephenson fans.
Anyway enjoy
