Left MEPs to go to Ireland ahead of Fiscal Treaty referendum
Voicing opposition to the Fiscal Treaty’s anti-democratic transfer of powers and its institutionalization of austerity, a delegation of European United Left / Nordic Green Left MEPs will travel to Dublin next week – Wednesday 16 May to Friday 18 May.
The MEPs will meet with campaigners, Members of Parliament, Trade Unionists and civil society organisations opposing the Fiscal Treaty and calling for a no vote.
They will hold a press conference with the Campaign Against the Austerity Treaty on Thursday at 11am in Buswells Hotel, Molesworth St, and will take part in a public meeting on the treaty on Thursday at 8pm in Wynns Hotel, Abbey St.
More details about the delegation are available at: http://www.guengl.eu
MEPs on the delegation:
Paul Murphy – Ireland
Søren Søndergaard – Denmark
Sabine Wils – Germany
João Ferreira – Portugal
Mikael Gustafsson – Sweden
The MEPs will be joined by a representative of Sinn Féin.

I guarantee that corporate press/media coverage of this will be absolutely minimal. The political class and media establishment has closed ranks on this referendum. There isn’t the slightest effort at balanced coverage.
You can say that again. This Week yesterday wheeled out Nigel Farrago of the UKIP as the voice of the no side. Morning Ireland today had some shopkeeper debating the treaty whose argument was that we should vote no, then yes later in the year. And of course Ganley has been dragged up out of his coffin too. RTE couldn’t do a better job if they were deliberately trying to portray opponents of the treaty as all being right wing gobshites. But then the obligation to provide a report to Pat Rabbitte every 3 months must surely be helping to “focus” their coverage.
Interesting that Rabbitte made a comment on RTE that cost them 100,000 grand
