This arrived in my inbox and may well be of interest to some of you.

…. been putting together the first student movement archive which now hosts over 30,000 documents, photos, posters, books and other assorted material. The archive will not be open to academic researchers and members of the public for at least another three years but we plan on digitising as much material as possible so it is accessible.

They are still looking for material, and have details about donating as well as contact details etc on their Website

Already they’ve a Flickr stream which as you can imagine has some gems.
They have a new Facebook Page where you’ll see all sorts of updates and they are also on Twitter

I recognise a few faces in this one:

The guy on the left was I think the SU president in Kevin St., I don’t remember his name. The two lads standing at the back are the English brothers, Bruce and Alan. I know them more from playing pool with them in the SU than anything else. From what I recall Bruce went on to be more involved in the SU the following year. The SU suffered from neglect during that later leadership and was ‘rescued’ the year after through the election of a guy involved in the SWM I think it was, who took the role more seriously.

On the porters dispute and the sit-in, I have a vague memory of marching to the DIT offices (on Marlborough St?) in relation to this dispute in 1982. From what I recall the students involved in the sit-in were later suspended from college and there was a second wave of protest in order to get them re-instated.

There’s some more photos of the Irish student movement at work, and, erm, at play, here in an old facebook group I curated:
