Excellent one Garibaldy. In fairness to the Troika, maybe we should ditch that national holiday in March and adopt Bastille Day instead. While we’re at it maybe La Marseillaise aussi. Might be worth suggesting to Baldy Noonan as a negotiating ploy, what do you think?
The new French president is refusing to put the Austerity Treaty into his country’s constitution and apparently has promised that the working and lower middle classes won’t pay for the recession.
And hopefully he will follow through. Remember Gilmore and Labour’s way not Frankfurt.Mind you Hollande represents something whereas Gilmore represents nothing
Hollande has never said he will not sign the austerity treaty. The growth pact amounts to about 1% of GDP, much of it already committed. He has increased the minimum wage by a tiny amount. Proposals to shift some of the tax burden to the rich and corporations are welcome but it remains to be seen if the Hollande administration will move to protect the working class from the brutalities of the market, or if it will implement measures,-’structural reforms’- to further commodify labour power. Will he attempt to revive social democracy or contribute to its demise?
CL-you’re dead right,Hollande is no white knight but compared to what passes for the Labour party in this country,he talks a different language.Where are the angry Labour TDs in light of the growing inequality in this state as reported by Social Justice Irealnd and the League of Credit Unions?
Hollande has actually increased the minimum wage9by a tiny amount) whereas our Labour TDs are thrilled at having restored it to its previous level but not one of them is talking about increasing it.Similarly Hollande has increased the Back to School allowance, any chance of that happening here?
Prise des Civic Offices, partout.
One day, per year, an accountin to housing applicants
by the civic office mandarins.

Bastille Day would clearly be a great improvement, not only on the March holiday, but the one that takes place in July just before.
I am thinking nasty thoughts about who might be sent to the Guillotine.I am moving beyond the boycott idea.
