Many thanks to SC (and apologies for not getting back, can receive but not send emails) for the following.
Falkirk based labour historian James D Young passed away on 23rd June last aged 81. Obituaries for him were published in The Herald and The Scotsman newspapers. Here is a link to his obituary on the Scottish Republican Socialist Movement website.
Jimmy was a prolific writer who had a keen interest in Irish working class history, and shortly before he died, he finished a biography of James Connolly which will be published posthumously.

I met James a number of times in Falkirk. A true leftist. He was a member of the International Socialists in the 50s along with Ray Challinor. He revived the memory of a lot of Scottish history which had been forgotten. He was great company and a mine of interesting stories.
Very sorry to hear of the death of James D. Young. I read his “The Very Bastards of creation”. A lively, informative and interesting work.
He was one of the few to keep alive the great tradition of John Maclean.
