Garibaldy is on leave for the next few weeks, so all contributions gratefully accepted in this slot! However, I’ll get the ball rolling by noting the following from Marc Coleman. A near perfect example of ‘don’t look here, look over there’. And this gem…
The influence of long-dead left-wing philosophers on our tax policy is far too strong.

Eoghan Harris is funnier than he knows:
Back in the days when I was an idealistic Marxist ideologue, Con borrowed a watch from the barman of the White Horse on Burgh Quay at closing time and said: “Harris, I’ll give you two minutes to explain Marxism to me, and I’m throwing in the ball now.”
Having had a few drinks I stupidly gave it to him full gallop: dialectical materialism, historical materialism, dictatorship of the proletariat, the lot.
Con listened intently, nodded ‘time up’ as I paused for breath and spoke softly through his screening fingers: “I’ll say one thing for you Harris — you’re not dogmatic.”

Although the `Marxism in two minutes’ challenge might be an interesting one.
Actually that’s true.
I also thought this suggestion that RTÉ should have done a documentary highlighting the parallels between Katie Taylor and the subjects of Chariots of Fire and use the CofFire music (like that’s no cliche) was entertaining.
Did you think that the overall tone of various commentaries in the paper was very religious?

What?
Irish sports correspondents don’t wear wrist watches? Doesn’t seem likely, does it?
In view of last week’s fawning coverage of JP McManus’s party for his horses, Gene Kerrigan is worth a look:

Apparently, McManus was one of the investors in Denis Brosnan’s fund which owns the care home whose mistreatment of patients was exposed by the BBC last week.
Chris Andrews is some eejit
My thoughts exactly. By the way, very entertaining re his charge of the LP ‘selling out’ and then the typical orthodoxy stuff he was trotting out as well.
Who knew FF would lead the way in innovative social media use eh?
Hardly much need to add to what’s already churned out voluntarily but I can see dedicated black propaganda Twitter (or whatever follows) accounts become a thing as time goes on.
Fine Gael’s approach to the GE and Áras election says a lot about the direction they are going. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re spending a fortune on some new ‘guru’ within a few years.
