Interesting that Brian is now saying that he left with Clare Daly. All he’d said previously on twitter was that he hadn’t resigned because Clare had but for “operational reasons”, whatever that means. It makes sense I suppose: It was a bit of a coincidence for him to resign on the same day if they hadn’t talked about it previously. They aren’t, of course, strictly contradictory positions.

Full marks for honesty for saying that there’s no strife in the Socialist Party and that he doesn’t expect others to follow. It might be the first time I’ve ever heard an activist say something like that after just leaving a party

Actually Brian says “Donal, Clare and I had spoken about it prior to our resignation and our reasons are very similar.”

Most interesting part of this is that they stand by Clare Daly’s claim that the reason for the resignations was the SP’s orientation to the ULA rather than anything about Mick Wallace.

Its a pity its so short and that points aren’t elaborated upon or teased out. I suppose though that the Dublin People wouldn’t be known for in depth interviews.

While it is quite credible that the Greene brothers left for this reason it really isn’t credible in Clare’s case. I don’t doubt they spoke to her before she left. However, why no arguments over the issue within the Socialist Party? Why didn’t she take the opportunity to write an alternative document, to raise resolutions on the issue, or to fight for her ideas in the Party? If she genuinely believed this and didn’t fight for it in the Socialist Party then you have to believe that she is either politically incompetent or lacked the will to fight for her ideas. I don’t thing either is plausible in Clare’s case.

On the otherhand we have statements by the Socialist Party that were not signed by Clare condemning Wallace. We have evidence of voting support for Wallace in the CAHWT. People may delude themselves and chose to believe all sorts of wishful thinking when it suits their political purpose. However, the truth has a habit of coming back and biting them in the arse.

SWP Statement …What We Say: Clare Daly and Socialist Party

Rather shameless from the SWP there, to be babbling on about democratic cultures, given their record as the most manipulative and least democratic element of the left, both in their internal life and in their interactions with everyone else, but shameless hypocrisy is unfortunately only to be expected. I’m also amused by the claim that the SWP was “never impressed” by Wallace’s “left wing rhetoric”. How quickly and easily they send the Enough! campaign off down the memory hole.
