Where does this end? October 16, 2012

What’s interesting in a way is the way all this has played in the media – at least it seems that way with the news that the Ceann Comhairle agreed Dáil Standing Orders meant that the TG couldn’t bar a TD from joining them.
In a way this isn’t that strange, the Technical Group being merely a technical arrangement on paper, or as the IT put it:
Under Dáil rules he cannot be barred from the Technical Group, designed to secure speaking time in the house for TDs.
But ironically the very same Irish Times piece points up the contradictions, at least in terms of perception, as one will see in the following…
The Technical Group of left leaning TDs has been further damaged after chairman Finian McGrath stepped down.
Left-leaning? Only barely on the numbers*, and that’s irrelevant to its function.
Anyhow, a bit of a mess.
*actually, just thinking about it it actually is overwhelmingly left-leaning given the inclusion of the ULA, but that again is irrelevant given its function.

Peculiar. It’s not actually an Irish Times piece, but by the Press Association.
In any case, for the Times is an excuse to describe the Left as damaged.
Well spotted. Clearly their sub-eds didn’t bother to read the piece when it came in and just lashed it up on the site. Poor.
Agree entirely.
I don’t buy do strongly into this right wing media does left down angle. First and foremost is if the Irish left was larger then a tg wouldn’t be needed so can’t blame anonymity on media. Second point follows on. Did finian need to quit. No way. It’s a personal call and if any fallout arises its from his decision but as a fractured movement the left feels the impact each time. If. the media can be blamed for this then blaming them for all becomes very easy.
Is McGarth saying that Wallace is worse than the FF government he propped up for a period.
