One tends to hope… November 6, 2012

…tomorrow morning’s photos won’t feature something like this with a grinning Mitt Romney – whatever the failings of Barack Obama.

Funny how in retrospect Truman appears remarkably progressive (on some issues I must stress) compared to some who came after him on the Democratic ticket.

Meanwhile, there’s already been one parody of this featuring Obama, this one over the health care mandate decision at the US Supreme Court.

Truman replaced Henry Wallace as Roosevelt’s vice-president in January 1945. The Democrats, aware of Roosevelt’s declining health, and worried that he might not make it through the full term, feared a Henry Wallace presidency. Wallace, among other things, looked with favour on the Russian revolution.
Truman emerged, apparently untainted, from the totally corrupt Pendergast machine in Kansas city.

I have not followed the US election as much as I usually would, but, Irish Times/RTE headlines notwithstanding, Obama seems to be a strong favourite in this election.

Nate Silver gives Obama as much as an 83% chance of victory. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/03/nov-2-for-romney-to-win-state-polls-must-be-statistically-biased/

Of course, elections that are a walkover do not make for interesting or entertaining news.
