From 1991 ‘Left Unite in Galway’ January 10, 2013

This article about the 1991 Local Elections, on the Galway Advertiser site caught my eye.
The pact had little impact electorally as The Workers Party, who had won 2 seats in 1985 (winning 8.97% of the vote) failed to win a seat , polling just 2.85% in these 1991 Local Elections (Cllr Jimmy Brick left the party a year prior to the election). Labour had won 1 seat in 1985 (10.83%) and won 2 in 1991 (with 13.21%).
What is interesting is that the pact was in place in spite of a row between the parties at National level. I wonder are there places where the local Labour Party are prepared to work with the further Left in Electoral alliances and pacts , despite opposition from headquarters.
