Sunday Independent Stupid Statement of the Week September 1, 2013Posted by Garibaldy in Sunday Independent Stupid Statement of the Week.
Enjoy the cognitive dissonance (of several types) in the following.
Because, today, Labour and the unions represent those who need their protection least: job/pension-safe public sector workers and intellectual “Sandymount Socialist” types. It seems not to reach their conscience – or version of reality – that under Labour’s watch, the rich have become richer and the poor, poorer. Or that our unemployment would be on a par with Greece if it weren’t for mass emigration. Or that the number of families who can’t pay their mortgages has reached critical levels? Or that, if not for the Welfare State, swathes of Dublin, Limerick and elsewhere would today be facing poverty similar to that of 1913?
And who makes up the welfare state? Unless I’m mistaken, it’s public sector workers. And who wishes to see it destroyed? The Sindo. And whose interest is this government – like that before it – inflicting cuts? International finance capital, and its domestic offshoot. And who are their major cheerleaders? The Sindo. One wonders how some people’s heads don’t explode.
BTW, the headline on this made me think it was about Sindo editorial meetings.
