A call for help – Left resources we could collate September 5, 2013Posted by WorldbyStorm in Culture, Economy, Irish Politics, The Left, Uncategorized.
We’ve been discussing the issue of zero-hour contracts, and unionised companies and services and how and if it is possible for us as leftists to use or access those services. A lot of very interesting points made, not least LATC’s point about the dangers of consumer activism as a substitute for political activity. And that can be a very real danger, that it becomes the softest of soft reformism. All that said, given that there are positive campaigns that at the very least we can attempt to engage with, I’m going to add another tab at the top of the site for such matters.
I’m not sure how to format this, I don’t want to fall into the pit of consumerism, but perhaps if we view it as being about upholding the rights of workers, for example the Fair Hotels campaign and so on that might be best, as well as clear information for those who may be facing negative working environments etc. And other campaigns or information would be great as would anything we’re forgetting to include. Any suggestions gratefully received.
