This weekend I’ll mostly be listening to… Polygon Window December 5, 2009

Many of us like Aphex Twin, or to be more precise the first three or four albums. Some of us apparently like the rest but I wonder. I really do. But for something a little bit louder, a little more discordant than those early ones we need only look earlier in Mr. Twin’s (or Richard D James to be precise) career for Surfing On Sine Waves, his album released under the name Polygon Window in 1993. It’s more techno like, and all the better for that. Someone commented that this was what the soundtrack to sleep would be like, and I kind of get that. But the insistent percussion sort of makes me just a little dubious. Not quite my dreams.

That said while I love the Aphex Twin albums, I love this just a bit more.

Richard James has stemmed his output in recent years. Perhaps that’s a good thing, but I don’t subscribe to the theory that the good stuff is only on tap early on in a career… maybe it’s time for a Polygon Window revival.

Polygon Window

Audax Powder

Quino-Phec – perhaps more typically Aphex Twin.
