An Phoblacht is now available from the usual outlets. The very varied and interesting contents is as follows:
· Feature on gangland crime;
· SIPTU writes on Community Employment jobs campaign;
· Conor Murphy and the NI Water sackings;
· National Hunger Strike Commemoration in Bellaghy;
· Donegal rallies against health cuts;
· Eoin Ó Broin on the Budget debate;
· Protests against ESB cut-offs and Fianna Fáil’s failure on jobs and emigration;
· The People’s Supermarket: Retail co-ops;
· Ballymurphy Massacre: Interviews with children of victims;
· Vigilantism and anti-social activity in the North;
· Bloody Sunday: Who was behind the scenes in Whitehall?
· Ógra Shinn Féin: Gasyard Féile, Belfast Pride parade;
· Climate emergency demands emergency response;
· Passion and Politics exhibition at Hugh Lane Dublin City Gallery.
I’m a little confused here. Is the balaclava’d individual with the pistol on the front cover meant to represent the ‘crime lords’ or associates of the editorial team?

He is actually “facing down” the aforementioned crime lords.
Seriously though I’ve read a few good ap articles in the past, despite it generally being a bit too uncritical party line ish for my tastes.

I think you’re right Ramzi…
And it is pretty clear from the context who and what the figure is meant to symbolise.

I had a go at the contents of the previous issue being mostly about the recent 30 years of conflict in the north. So, in fairness, this one appears to deal a lot more with current issues north and south.
But they couldn’t resist putting a gun on the front cover, could they?

Why does it say “see inside”, on the cover?

which side of the issue is the article on gangland crime written from? After all, they have been on both sides ( even at the same time ).

Anyone else reminded of the Newstalk logo with that header? I do think the paper looks a lot sharper now than in the past in fairness.

Maybe Dennis O’Brien is taking his policy of cornering the Irish media market a little too seriously?
