Wow this takes me back. I remembering having to write a mini-dissertation on whether the Zapatistas were the first post-modern latin american revolutionaries.
Sounds like pretentious hogwash now I think about it.
Still, they were an interesting bunch. I remember a lot of hope at the time, probably all p1ssed away now.

Zapata was an inspirational figure, I’m surprised the Mexican Revolution wasn’t mentioned more last November during the 100th anniversary. Two books I can recommend: Zapata and the Mexican Revolution by Womack Jr and the Mexican Revolution by Adolfo Gilly

This is a great period of history, the exploits of Villa and Zapata, [you can not understand one without the other] were truly stunning and very enjoyable to read about.
The type of revolutionary gunmen which always emerge during revolutionary turmoil and who are destroyed by bureaucratic satraps, who sadly also always come out the other end of such turmoil.
Funny how much of the far left passes by the Mexican revolution whilst crawling over the fine detail of the Russian. [an observation not a criticism, honest]
