A bit late, but I was just reading a review of Kate Hudson’s history of
CND by Bill Hetherington, the British peace historian.
He’s not a WPC fan:

“The Peace Pledge Union’s first leaflet against the bomb, barely two months after Hiroshima, is passed over in favour of a eulogy for the partisan British Peace Committee and World Peace Council
Moscow line”.

It does seem to me a shame that many leftists have never even
heard of left-wing peace groups like War Resisters’ International or the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, or thoughtful pacifists like Gene Sharp or the late Barbara Deming.

…or veteran Jesuit peace campaigner Daniel Berrigan.

I’m sure many leftists would know Berrigan as a protester
against the Vietnam War, but his actual pacifism doesn’t
seem to well known.

It’s not widely known even among Irish left historians, that there was a pacifist organisation in Ireland, the “All Ireland Anti-war Crusade” from the 1930s to the 1950s. I think some of its
members went on to found the Irish branch of CND.
