Meant to post this up a few weeks ago…..
After the popularity of the Blades Concert posted earlier in the year, The rather wonderful Fanning Sessions Archive is after digging up another recording of a Blades concert, this time from the SFX in November 1985.

In slightly related news. Reekus Records are releasing a retrospective compilation …
“The double album includes 20 tracks from the early years available on cd for the first time including some unreleased Blades and Micro Disney tracks ....”

That Reekus compilation is one to put on the list for Santa. I loved the Some Kind of Wonderful and Camino Organisation records back in the day. Any information about those bands, who they were, what they’re doing now? I always thought there was great scope for a big Nuggets type box of all those Irish bands from around 1977-1989. Or indeed a very good book which I pushed to no avail to a number of publishers over the years based around the Hot Press 20 bands to watch annual features round the end of the seventies when U-2 were rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rule The Roost, Stagalee and Fit Kilkenny and the Remoulds.
Though a book has just come out entitled Love Goes To Buildings on Fire, about the New York music scene 1973-1978, which sounds like it could be a great companion to Rip It Up and Start Again.

Eamonn. Have a look at the Come Here to Me blog. Someone there has done a list of Irish punk/new wave bands and records, 1977-83 or thereabouts. From there, you can surf onto all kinds of stuff – I found a “what are they doing now” piece about the members of a band – the Dark – I used to go and see in the Summit Inn in Howth on a Sunday afternoon in those heady days.

Fantastic book out on Dublin youth fashion/style, 1950s-1990s, mods, rockers, skins, punks, and you’ll recognise the Blades in one of the photos. It’s called ‘Where Were You’. Think its the work of one guy who trawled people’s photo collections for years.
