This Weekend I’ll Mostly be Listening to…A Prairie Home Companion February 25, 2012

Posted by yourcousin in Culture, This Weekend I'll Mostly Be Listening to....

This week not only am I actually trying to write something on the tablet the wife got me for Christmas (which is no small feat in itself)but also thought I’d try to take TWIMBLT in a slightly different direction. A Prairie Home Companion, has been on the radio longer than I’ve been alive and is utterly unique in this day and age. A live radio broadcast which contains music, serialized series such as the ever constant Guy Noir, Lives of the Cowboys, and more seasonal serials like Snowman(For some reason I love this segment). It also has the news from Lake Wobegon, which for my money provides some of the purest slices of Americana around.

November 26 2011 show

Obviously posting a radio broadcast is a little different that the usual YouTube clip. If for some reason you suck and you don’t want to listen to the whole show you most certainly need to catch a great cover of Gary Davis’s (proper punctuation?)I am the light of this world @ 59:47, a skit that had me sitting in my truck laughing until it hurt @ 47:57 and as ever the news from LW @ 1:25:24.

Like I said a two hour broadcast is a little different than the usual clip, but it is definitely worth it. It is also something that grows on you over time, so give it that chance. Last week’s show is below.

And a few video clips

And finally just because it made me laugh, a song from the PHC movie
