Maybe I’m left school too long ….. May 23, 2012

…. heard of a South Dublin School where after the standard graduation mass the boys were each presented with silver rings with the name of the school engraved on the outside.

The old school tie being replaced with a ring?

How very Saved by the Bell-esque.

They’ll be getting letterman jackets for the rugby teams next.

Going to my daughter’s graduation from school tonight. It’s certainly a big deal these days. Don’t remember any of that shit when I left O’Connells in the seventies! I’m in two minds about the whole thing. All that sentimental, gonna miss you so much, we all love and respect each other, pupils and teachers … would there be a market here for School Graduation Sick Bags like the Royal Wedding Sick Bags that did so well across the water last time out? PS Don’t tell my daughter I posted this.

There certainly seems to be some resistance to it from some students, going by all the stories in the IT every late May of the “departing 6 th year students go on rampage” variety.

It’s very Merkan. Do you have school “proms” as well, with students going off in huge stretched limos? That arrived in Ingerland some years ago. Harmless, but for some reason I don’t like it. Grumpy old man.

Yep. We call them debs or debs dances here. Debs short for debutantes. But they’ve been around quite a while. I didn’t go to mine back in 1977. A feature I have to look forward to in September is when all the neighbours and friends are invited round to view my daughter and her dress and her companion before they head out and do what debs do. The more I think of it the more I think there’d definitely be a market for Graduation and Debs Sick Bags. I’m gonna be an entrepreneur!

yeah, we had our debs in 82. No stretch limos though. Buses too and from the Sands Hotel. A fairly soulless event.

Go for it with the bags. 🙂

That’s a grim tale, Tawdy. And it’d be far from unusual in those days more’s the pity.

I’m a ’60s graduate as well and all I got was an undying hatred of privilege, the Catholic Church, Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, IBEC, the Establishment, so I reckon I had a good education.

A typically acerbic view from the Fountains ( worth a TWIMBLT one of these weeks).

Thanks for the nice post. Do you know..How To Be More Confident, A number of men need tips and advice on how to be more confident with women. Women adore confident men who believe in their own abilities and themselves. Kama Lifestyles dating coaching specialises in teaching men how to be confident. It doesn’t depend on personal traits and characteristics, but can be learned by anyone. It does, however, take some work to turn negative thoughts and behaviours into something positive, and no one can do the work but the man who needs to change his attitude.
