I am glad to see IELB has done the anti-poppy thread this year. A quite surprising absence of all this in the Sindo, but there is this tribute to those who went and fought so the Empire could oppress the peoples of the world. Outright winner this week is the following
In general the consensus from my impromptu straw poll was a dawning comprehension that, yes, Quinn Jr had gone to prison a boy and emerged a man, and that this was a very attractive quality indeed in a country which so desperately needs a hero or two.
The Cedar Lounge Revolution 
Given human nature what often happens is that offspring of entrepreneurial wealth creators do not have the same drive and spirit as the parent. His sojourn in Mountjoy has done wonders for young Mr. Quinn as the wonderful article by Carol Hunt makes clear.
In these times of budget stringency there is clearly an untapped source of revenue here. The government could charge a hefty fee to rich folk so that their sons,- and indeed daughters too,-could avail of the same opportunities Quinn Jr enjoyed for free; 50 grand, say, for 3 months in Mountjoy would raise hundreds of millions from the Diaspora alone. Lets hope that this proposal is given prominence at The Gathering. It would, as the Yanks say, create a ‘good vibe’, and counteract the negativity of such as Gabriel Byrne which is already adversely affecting inward investment.

The economics that underlay all this remained hazy. There was no shortage of economists who felt free to expound on the roots of the miracle, but never convincingly. And they were usually working for banks or estate agents. When it came to explaining how a basket-case economy was suddenly being touted as an example for the rest of the world — well, there were a lot of gaps in the story. And an element of fairy dust.
Anyone suggesting that this might be a problem was a begrudger.

I know this is off the track so to speak but has anyone seen this or was it reported in the Irish media ?
