From Eamon Gilmore’s Budget statement:
We are also bringing transparency and reform to the system of political funding. I note that no single measure caused as much outrage among the technical group yesterday as the suggestion that they would have to audit their leader’s allowance in the same way as political parties. The hypocrisy we have heard from that quarter now comes with a price attached.
Er… well, not quite…, watching the response I didn’t see any such ‘outrage’, and on the broader issue as to what the members of the Technical Group might think of such a reform this is well worth a read in that respect.
So Gilmore was speaking incorrectly – to put it at its kindest, and knowing that that was incorrect was making what was nothing more than an opportunistic political attack on political opponents in his Budget statement. What a guy.

Since receiving the Foreign Affairs portfolio An Tanaiste has bravely put on the green jersey and worked unceasingly to restore Ireland’s reputation among the nations of the world.
This effort has now paid off; today, Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, and formerly of Goldman Sachs, in welcoming the budget, said that there now exists ‘plenty of goodwill’ for Ireland.
As soon as this goodwill is monetized, the Irish economy will stabilize and equilibrium will be restored.
