This Weekend I’ll Mostly Be Listening to… The Harvest Ministers February 16, 2013

Posted by irishelectionliterature in This Weekend I'll Mostly Be Listening to....

The Harvest Ministers another great Irish band, who are actually still around. I saw them first many moons ago in Whelans I think. A friend had sung their praises and I went along. On the strength of that gig I went off and bought their first album ‘Little Dark Mansion’, I listened to it quite a lot at the time partly as it was one of the few CDs I had.
It was a great album although sometimes quite melancholy and stark. For me ‘Railroaded’ was the standout track
They’ve had a few releases since then and I have some of them on CD also. The Jaunty ‘Cleaning Out The Store’ and ‘That Wont Wash’ are both from the album ‘A Feeling Mission’
Anyway enjoy.
You’ll find a bio of them and a session track ‘Teresa’ here on the great fanning Sessions site.

The Harvest Ministers launch ‘You Can See Everything From Here’, in Bewleys Theatre on Sat 17th May. The album is an anthology of their music, covering the period between 1993 – 2010. The musicians on the night will be Brian Foley on double bass, Tom Dunne on drums, Padraig McCaul on Piano / Saxophone, Aingeala de Burca on violin and Will Merriman on vocal / guitar. http://www.bewleyscafetheatre.com/events/the-harvest-ministers-1

Gas, I just came across these guys on Lyric and, realizing they were an Irish band from the 80s, really did think “I bet they will have been written about in the Cedar Lounge.”

Playing again this Saturday …
