That’s a pretty mental poster. The last panel, in particular, given the context of the rest of the poster looks distinctly like fisting.

I call anachronism.
It hadn’t crossed my mind, till you pointed it out, and I’m pretty sure it didn’t cross that of the authors / artists.

I don’t know about that – each panel has a dark circle representing a womb and the 70’s left were more sexually liberal than nowadays in many ways, so it wouldn’t have been an alien concept, plus I think RS were pretty much trolls / agent provocateurs so I wouldn’t rule it out.
In any case, the really mental thing is the slogan at the top – it is your revolutionary duty to have an abortion – kill capitalism!

I bow to your greater knowledge of RS, Comrade Chekov. And 70’s sexual mores 😉
But couldn’t you interpret the poster as just pointing out that women are in the most corporeal sense involved in the reproduction of labour?

Actually, come to think of it, where are the Magnus Hirschfelds de nos jours?
Do we really have any idea what the sexual repetoire of the early seventies would have entailed. I want figures!

Sorry to disappoint, but that last panel – the fist inside the Venus symbo-l was a pretty common feminist icon back in the day – far enough back to a time when ‘feminist’ was a much less usual term that ‘women’s libber’

Which reminds me of Panti’s poor-taste joke:
“Why are gay men so bad at fighting? Because we think this is a fist.”
Let’s just say that the hand gesture on the word ‘this’ does not reflect the hand-shape shown in the poster.

This is verging on the NSFW. Luckily I’m ‘working from home’.

RS were fascinating – they were a shadowy presence in TCD in the late ’70s with many people rumoured to be members: even in what was then a fairly small campus with an even smaller proportion of politically active students, they were impenetrable, or so it seemed…..they were also assumed by many to ‘run everything’ in student politics in much the way the WP were taken to ‘run’ RTE.

So – a local branch of the Illuminati then? They are capable of anything. See above.

Affectionately known to some trots as “Revolutionary Straggle”.

They don’t make them like that anymore.
More’s the pity, probably.
