Quite extraordinary – if it’s not just window-dressing and a serious criminal case is being built.
I have nothing but contempt for the existing governing coalition in Greece but (linguistically appropriate) kudos to them for this.
I guess their calculation is that they will pick up support from former Golden Dawn supporters if it is ever banned, or at least they want to stem the leakage of their voters towards Golden Dawn.
However it’s a precedent that could be used against the opposition – and no wonder Tsipras is concerned.

indeed
Opinion polls earlier this week indicated that New Democracy stands to benefit most from a Golden Dawn collapse, especially as roughly four in 10 of the Greek who voted for the neoNazi party last summer had previously backed the conservatives.

Yes, I am a bit worried about the precedent. For the “moderate” Right Syriza, KKE et al are even worse.

Speech at the Kreisky Forum, Vienna: an address to the Austrian Social Democrats
TSIPRAS Alexis
19 September 2013
Last week, Alexis Tsipras (SYRIZA’s chair) gave a talk at the Kreisky Forum, in Vienna. In it he addressed Austrian social democrats, in Bruno Kreisky’s old residence. I post Tsipras’ speech here for two reasons: First, because it sends an interesting message to central European social democrats (Austrian and German in particular). Secondly, because this important speech seems to have gone unnoticed by the mainstream media. Your views on the speech below will, as always, be very welcome.
