From the Meath Forum newspaper:

“Representing the newly formed Centre Left party, John King has lived in Ashbourne for 35 years. He has a proud record of community achievements in Ashbourne, including setting up Ashbourne Cardiac First Responders. In response to growing crime and anti-social behaviour, John was involved in setting up Ashbourne Community Alert, a body which has regular meetings with the Gardai. As a daily bus commuter he is very much aware of the problems with the Bus Eireann service, excessive fares, late buses or buses not turning up. He is involved with the Ashbourne and Ratoath Bus Users Group and drew up the ‘Fare Deal for Meath’ proposals. As an active member of his residents’ association, he played an active part in Garden City and Crestwood getting second prize in the National Pride of Place competition.”

King contested the 2009 local elections for Labour, getting 486 first preferences:

And I see there are two other candidates also, Mick Martin in Slane and Paul Nolan in Dublin (doesn’t say which area):

Mick Martin contested the Meath-East by-election last year, getting 190 first preferences.

Damn. Threw out Noel Kelly’s high gloss leaflet. (Two actually. One for him and one with him named on Mary Fitzpatrick’s.) First time candidate for FF who hadn’t even joined the party when they selected him and has now withdrawn because the party won’t fund his campaign.
