This Weekend I’ll Mostly Be Listening to… Songs about Water November 1, 2014

Given today is a National day of protest over Water Charges, I thought it would be apt to do songs about water. Needless to say many many titles missed out as I stuck to Water, Waterfalls and rain. I drew the line and decided that tears and sweat wouldn’t qualify. That said I’d say the government will be sweating and crying over water charges if they have not done so already.
Still some great classics such as ‘Smoke on The Water’ which was the first riff I learned to play on the guitar. Billy Braggs “Body of Water” from his “Don’t Try this at home” album. Bruce Springsteens “The River” is another one I loved through my teens, was one of the few decent songs/albums that my older siblings had.
I went through a period of watching “The Song Remains The Same” in a smoke filled room with a few lads who were very fond of the 70’s sheepskin coat look, its a brilliant film and “The Rain Song” is included here. Finally The Stone Roses “Waterfall” which is just brilliant.
Any more good water songs?

Brilliant idea IEL. I’d hesitantly recommend a few, but perhaps the one that springs to mind most readily is the – ahem – Waterboys…

And a song about Irish Water and those who thought up and support the water charge.

A bit of anachronistic orientalism, but watery.
