I got a gift of Damien Rices new album at Christmas and have been listening to it quite a lot since. It’s excellent and a great reminder of his talent. I enjoyed ‘O’ and I liked ‘9’ a little bit less but still liked it. I was thinking when he released the new album after the eight year gap that the music business must have changed an awful lot in those eight years. Many people listen to lots of music but its a file, a spotify playlist, a download as opposed to the physical item of a record or a CD.
I’ve seen him live many times and have almost always, despite the apparent misery of his music, felt uplifted leaving those gigs. Part of that was probably due to the beautiful voice of Lisa Hannigan… but alas they parted ways.
