Sunday Independent Stupid Statement of the Week March 20, 2016

Posted by Garibaldy in Sunday Independent Stupid Statement of the Week.

This week’s contribution by Eoghan Harris actually tackles an important issue – the lack of affordable housing and unsustainable nature of rents in Dublin, and he even lauds a plan for a state building programme to offer affordable housing. But then there’s this

But Bernie Sanders is not an alternative but another classic Trot.

Otherwise, slim pickings. Although at least RDE has the decency to start a piece on Pearse with one fascist quoting the opinion of another on him. One wonders if she even noticed the irony.

I saw the blurbs on the RDE book – all the usual suspects, but the real alarm-bells were set ringing by one which opined that RDE ‘was more sympathetic her subjects than many of their hagiographers’. Anyone who remembers the passive-aggressive treatment of Pearse can imagine what that might mean.

IT would be great if Eoghan Harris could hop in a Tardis and do a ‘five doctors’ crossover with all his past incarnations; all the iterations of Eoghan in the same place at the same time. 1960s Catholic fundy Eoghan meets sticky Eoghan meets FG Eoghan meets FF Eoghan meets whatever the hell he is today.

And don’t forget Ulster Unionist Party spin doctor Eoghan, adviser to UUP leader David Trimble.

There is one consistent theme in his various incarnations, a hatred of Trotskyism and Trotskyists. He managed to portray his time in RTE as a battle against Trotskyist entryists.

I particularly liked his gem that Labour should return to government, because they’d be cannibalised by SF in opposition – despite the fact that they’d be cannibalised by SF, SDs and AAA-PBP if they remained a junior coalition partner!

Yeah, he’s not thinking it through at all

Eoghan Harris, like Kevin Myers, is an obsessive, self-absorbed media jester. Both crave attention. Both throw epithets and extreme depictions around the page in the hope of fuelling a reaction. Both hate to be ignored or regarded as irrelevant. Like Nick Cohen in the Observer, they have become bores.

WorldbyStorm - March 20, 2016

Extreme depictions – spot on, I remember the day EH called Mary McAleese a ‘tribal timebomb’, I’d long since lost respect for him by then but that was the perfect example of what was wrong g with his approach.

You read Harris, why?

I don’t recall a time when Eoghan “goal” Harris wasn’t a stomach churning, gobshite. He’s like an oleaginous, whiskey soaked David Brooks.

Imagine being stuck in an elevator with Harris, Browne & Dunphy. Sartre was a bleedin optimist.
