An ‘election threat’? April 4, 2016

Does a tweet from Leo Varadker really constitute an election threat? The Independent Alliance seems to think so:

The six Alliance TDs on Monday criticised acting Minister for Health Leo Varadkar for a tweet issued on Sunday night in which he said his general election posters were ready to be used in a second election.

But given the realities of the situation, mathematical and otherwise (and oddly despite the media some of the mood music closer to those involved has improved, or so I’m told) it’s not even a threat as much as a basic aspect of the structure of what is taking place.

I think we just got a little insight into the state of play in the FG/IA coalition negotiations.

I think you’re right but I also think it indicates some friction within the IA camp. I was told over the weekend that there are arguably two groups of TDs within the IA.

Sounds like IA TDs are not satisfied with just the one ministry for Ross?

Yep, I think the rural aspect isn’t unimportant. And realistically some in the IA would be closer to some in the rural Inds than they would to others in the IA.

I don’t get the feeling any Independents will actually be in govt. At least that’s my sense of it at the moment. But perhaps that’s being discussed well below the radar.

I think it’s also a case of FF taking offence at everything possible

FG and FF seem intent on enforcing the ruling duopoly come what may- dail reform, a new way of doing business is just a cover for business as usual..
