Labour: Waiting in the wings… April 5, 2016

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

From the IT.

Fine Gael has made fresh overtures to the Labour Party in recent days with a view to persuading it to consider participation in the next government.
Labour ruled out playing a role after its disastrous general election result, but some senior party figures now believe it should reconsider.

You bet!

They have begun to speak to their colleagues about Labour’s options.

“There is at least a conversation about it now,” said one source.

I give them a week.

Dangle a few sinecures before the recently ousted comrades (wouldn’t Aodhan love to be one of the Taoiseach’s nominees to the Seanad? And Emmet? You BETCHA!) Ditto a lot of them; a lame duck Taoiseach can hand out prize jobs just as well as the non-lame variety.

It’ll all be in the national interest, of course. For the good of the country, and reluctantly.

The Seanad nominees, yeah, I’d forgotten them as well. That certainly would sugar the pill.

Just out of curiosity – can a caretaker Taoiseach still nominate Senators? He/she doesn’t really have the mandate to do so.
