The Left and The Assembly Elections

Have talked to a few people from Belfast and Derry who think PBP are in with a great chance of winning two seats in The Assembly Elections. Interestingly too I gather that there is all sorts of underhand tactics from both sides and that SF are fairly spooked by the prospect of Gerry Carroll taking a seat. Asked about the left wing challenge to Sinn Féin in the coming Northern elections, Gerry Adams defended himself with a blatant lie. People Before Profit were, he said, a ‘two nations’ party.

So as well as in The Republic ,Sinn Fein seem vulnerable to The Left in certain areas in Northern Ireland. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
As for other Left candidates (and I may have missed some)

PBP are fielding three candidates
Eamonn McCann -Foyle
Fiona Nic Fhearghais -North Belfast
Gerry Carroll – West Belfast

The Workers’ Party are fielding four Candidates
Conor Campbell – West Belfast
Lily Kerr – South Belfast
Hugh Scullion – Mid Ulster
Gemma Weir – North Belfast

Cross-community Labour Alternative are fielding three candidates
Countney Robinson -East Belfast
Sean Burns – South Belfast
Conor Sheridan – East Antrim

Also of note is The Northern Ireland Labour Representation Committee which are fielding 8 candidates. These are Labour Party members running under this banner as the Labour Party NEC had refused to allow candidates to stand under the Labour Party name.
Outside of the Left, a few others of note include Fianna Fail member Martin McAllister running as an Independent in Newry and Armagh. I gather FF plan to run in Northern Elections soon, so this may indicate their potential. CISTA (Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol) are running four candidates.
