As Starkadder noted [and updated this with later shocking news that BLP MP Jo Cox was murdered this afternoon]:

A British Labour MP, Jo Cox, has been badly injured by a man who
shot and stabbed her. She’s been taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

There are reports circulating that her attacker shouted “Britain First”
during the assault:

She’s dead.

RIP – a thoroughly decent activist and politician.

Desperately sad. A very good appreciation by Corbyn.

It’s all a bit too Weimar. This is excellent:

“A referendum is one of those moments when it counts. There is no do-over, no consoling thought in defeat that, at least, there’s always next season. No, defeat is permanent and for keeps.”

Unless it’s Ireland. Nice -2, Lisbon-2.

But yes, this is certainly a watershed.

That cosy absence of security here between politicians and the general population, will it survive this? It has to, but you can bet they’ll be rattled.

I can’t ‘like’ that, but yes. Is wanting to kick Nigel Farage repeatedly until his level of consciousness equals his quotient of humanity make me a bad person?

Whatever about the exact state of mind of the killer (and excuses are being thrown around that wouldn’t be accepted for a Muslim) it seems clear he had been influenced by the poison of the right.

Tomorrow week could be a nasty day for foreigners. It’s the first time living in England I’ve really been worried.

Very good piece Michael. I think the line about feeling a bit sick is spot on too.

Apparently, that piece has been edited to remove references to Johnson and Farage.

The references to Farage are still there but the references to Johnson and Gove have been removed.

I had not heard of Jo.Cox until now, but the reports are that she was the sort of good person needed by Labour and politics in general.
Will Farago withdraw his poster or will he just take water and wash his hands?

It turns out the suspect, Thomas Mair, was linked to the Springbok
Club, an anti-EU, pro-Apartheid group, anti-“Political Correctness”
group:

This is an absolute tragedy. Heartbreaking.

I hesitate. But what impact might this have on the referendum? I’d suggest it may lead to an increase in the Remain vote. Sympathy for Ms Cox and a realization that there are more nutters on the Out side than on the In side.

Fetch the sick bucket. This website has discovered that the dregs of
the Internet -Trump Supporters, extremist libertarians, and neo-Nazis-
are either claiming Jo Cox’s murder was an anti-Brexit “false flag” operation or are actually celebrating her murder. 😦 😦 😦

Far Right, Trump fans celebrate murder of UK Labour MP Jo Cox
