The Broken Hearted Farmer… July 23, 2016Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.
This weekend we tell the story of Irish farming protests in the 1960s and a showband song that was allegedly banned… Joe Flynn and his wife Mary wrote ‘The Broken Hearted Farmer’ in the late 1960s, a song which told the story of the first farmers protest marches in Ireland. They were hoping for a No.1 hit, but it never happened. Joe and Mary have always believed Raidió Éireann (RTÉ) banned the song due to government pressure. 50 years later, we’re now telling the story of the song.
