Not much of a fan of the source (by which I mean Fergus Finlay), but the point here from Barnardos is well made:

The Irish education system has “inequality and unfairness” at its core, while claims of free education are an “insult” to parents struggling to cover back-to-school costs, Barnardos has said.

back to school cost presumably includes uniforms – why ?
Why are parents still being forced to pay for them?
Why not be like the rest of Europe and let children go to school wearing their own clothes? using a dress code, of course – no paramilitary or hooker get-ups!
