I’m not the biggest GAA fan as I may have mentioned once or twice, but in a fit of emigre sentiment I went to watch the AIF in the O’Neill’s here. Lots of Mayo jerseys, and a smattering of other county colours. I appeared to be the only Dub and everyone, neutrals and all was rabidly up for Mayo. It was like being an England fan anywhere else in the world…..

Looked a pretty sorry performance from the lads in blue but what would I know?

I wouldn’t be too knowledgeable either, my only experience of gaa being from the sidelines watching the youngest daughter play (she’s U15s now, I think), but Mayo looked the far better side, the Dubs were lucky to get the draw. Hopefully things will come together for the replay.

Yep. Dubs fierce lucky. A bit like the Dubs v Kerry in the rain last year, Mayo took this by the scruff of the neck from the start. Another great moral victory for the green and red.
All the talk of this being the greatest Dublin team ever… they need to prove it in the replay.
But Mayo’s run has to end and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it ends on Saturday week.

I went to a fair few Dublin games in the 00s but I’m no expert, still Mayo seemed to me to be both more incoherent but stronger than Dublin. Odd performance by them. A fair bit of digs thrown. Some generous decisions by the ref over the latter I thought.

A lot of credit due to Mayo , to come back from two freakish own goals to get a draw was pretty good. Mayo managed to frustrate Dublin’s forwards well. Gavin will likely bench Brogan and Flynn next time out, although McMenamin could lose out too.
Funny the fuss over Senators looking for tickets. Didn’t see either of the two Senators who made a fuss at the match….. what I did see though was a Dublin TD (who is entitled to buy 2 tickets) there with a friend, beside them a TD not from Mayo or Dublin who happened to be there with his son. Massive coincidence if the tickets didn’t come from the same source.
I wonder did certain TDs that were not from the competing counties also get sorted out for tickets by the GAA?

Mannion or Andrews in for Brogan maybe. Brogan to be used as sub for last 15 mins like the brother before him.
Who would you put on instead of Flynn? His, by my limited understanding, is a particular role, ball-winning rather than scoring much.

If I was Gavin, I’d gather all 35 or so on the extended panel tonight and tell them they all are in with a chance of starting on Saturday week. Then play some fierce A v B games over the next week or so. Then pick the team, probably with three or four changes but maybe more depending on how the A v B games went – Mannion, Andrews, Bastick starting, that kind of thing.
