Started it last night .Enjoying it so far – a wild riff on Irish status anxiety.

I’ve finished Interlude 1. Should we start on two?

Is the Fancy City Galway?

Consider it’s mostly dead women who do the talking, how gendered is the writing? In the Irish?

If you mean gramatically gendered GW its all in first person so not gendered in that sense ( do some langauges have a gendered first person voice?). But the mercilessness of her character assesments show its a Conamara woman talking even if you dont know its Caitríona Pháidin

Some languages do have ‘female’ and ‘male’ grammars – for example Japanese.

I guess my question is based around a male author writing in supposedly female personas.

Is there a discernable textual gender distinction between male and female speech in either the Irish or in Titley’s translation?

Is it significant?
