“Uber loses right to classify UK drivers as self-employed”
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/oct/28/uber-uk-tribunal-self-employed-status

Good to see. It’s remarkable short-termism from supporters of the likes of Uber for it’s “handiness” without regard for how it’s structured.

Listening to us tech podcasts I can’t say I’m entranced by ‘liberal’ pro uber voices on them

It’s amazing how much of the exciting world of disruptive tech start-ups (eugh) involves taking an existing business, but without the taxes and employment rights, and putting a fancy app on top of it🙂

It is good to see that workers and the public are waking up to the implications of techno-libertarians plans for us as workers.

On your point about Über and Co. parasiting pre-Internet age business. The technology has a double moment – sure it connects directly with customers, but it also serves to atomise the work force. This is no accident, but an essential part of the project(s).

But it’s up to us as trades unionist and people of the left to facilitate the self-organisation of workers in these businesses.

Non political but still good.

Once Upon a Time in the West is now on Netflix as is Unforgiven and the original True Grit. Happy days.

Scotland has lifted the ban on docking tails for spaniels and other Hunt Point Retrieve dogs. This is a victory for common sense which will hopefully spread to other areas.
