Speaking of punk… Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain interviewed… November 26, 2016

Anyone who has read ‘Please Kill Me: An Uncensored Oral History of Punk’, perhaps the best account of punk on the East Coast of the US, by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain will enjoy the latest WTF with Marc Maron podcast. Another book which is in that vein is ‘We Got the Neutron Bomb: The Untold Story of LA Punk’. In some ways they’re uniquely depressing books, so many people fell apart in the face of punk, and yet they’re also oddly uplifting, testament to the primal energies of that time.

John Robb’s Punk Rock: An Oral History, is more recent and looks at the UK situation during the same period, which oddly – perhaps due to over familiarity – despite the book being excellent didn’t resonate in quite the same way.
