Monster movies December 3, 2016

Was watching Godzilla, the 2014 film, the other day and thinking that it really is a pretty fine piece of work.

There’s a sequel in the works slated for a 2019 released (though not with the same director – Gareth Edwards – whose Star Wars: Rogue One is released next month). And there’s a Godzilla vs Kong film for the year after. This follows Kong: Skull Island which is out next year.

Got that? it’s going to be a busy couple of years for those franchises.

People are the real monsters.

In which sense the version of the supposedly un-filmable ‘High Rise’ has much to recommend it. Amy jump achieved the near-impossible in making a coherent script out of the novel and I rate Ben Wheatley as a director.

It came over to me as a rich and very dark social comedy / satire. References to early Greenaway all over the shop.

A Field in England was one of the strangest films I saw recently (also written by Jump) and I’d happily see it again.
