With Gardai victimising autistics, people with disabilities, women and encouraging physical abuse by criminal gangs, and ex-paramilitary drug gangs, apart from reporting to the UN that Gardai threats to those whose wrists are cut, arms are bruised, bones broken and stabbed should not be able to go out to be victimised?

If we are harassed further and threatened for making complaints against our attackers, and ask for help to be thrown down and affected for life from impact trauma told after investigation that it is “not against rules or regulations” for Gardai to manhandle and “drop” the victims.

Why are the victims persecuted by Gardai while the criminal gangs get encouraged by the lack of willingness of Gardai to engage certain subsections of society whose fundraising and drug dealing and extortion attempts target those who ought to expect Gardai to be sympathetic, not stitched up on contradictory evidence, while a Sínn Fein Councillor attempt to get witnesses and supporters of the victim to disengage. Frau Dr. Merkel has kicked off the long federal election campaign in Germany by predictably mixing a bit of AfDery with the promise of tax cuts.

So you’ve got a further erosion of internationally agreed asylum rights, and the old favourite, banning of full-face veil-wearing.

But when the SPD tries to ape the CDU, people vote for the original. The same, I suspect, will apply to the CDU and the AfD.

Same old same old – the ‘centre’ allowing the agenda to be set by the fascist spectrum.

There’s a good article by an Icelandic Attac activist describing the current political situation there.

I hope he’s right in asserting that at in at least one Atlantic island neo-liberal politics is a thing of the past. Certainly Icelandic politics seems to be in a much healthier state than that of the RoI. Or indeed the BRD.

But in Iceland there was a broad based left opposition to neoliberalism, and so no far right alternative emerged. That seems to be the gist of the article.

Excellent review of what looks like a worthwhile book:

http://marxandphilosophy.org.uk/reviewofbooks/reviews/2016/2557

It’s of ‘Hesitant Comrades: Labour and the Revolution in Ireland’ here’s a taste

“The leadership of the British labour movement had traditionally stood alongside ‘its’ own ruling class when it came to Ireland. Despite significant Chartist support for Irish independence in the 1830s and 1840s, reformist leaders had little sympathy for the Irish. Hesitant Comrades is well-stocked with egregious examples of Labour’s pro-imperialist history on Ireland. The Independent Labour Party leader, John Bruce Glasier, was probably not alone in his belief that ‘there seems to be a flaw – a fatal lesion – in Irish character that unfits the people for rational and progressive life’. It wasn’t until 1913 that the Labour Party adopted a policy for Ireland; and then it merely followed in the wake of the Liberal Party and endorsed Home Rule, which ensured that Irish foreign policy, police, and customs and excise policy would remain under British control”

Sadly many LP politicians were relentlessly pro-British imperialism. Further left positions varied a bit. It struck me that a similar study could be done on the more recent “Troubles”.

From his review of ‘Pompeii: Life and Death in a Roman Town’: “For someone who looks this closely at the past, it is strange [that Mary Beard, Professor of Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge] hasn’t had a closer look at herself before stepping in front of a camera. Beard coos over corpses’ teeth without apparently noticing she is wearing them. From behind she is 16; from the front, 60. The hair is a disaster, the outfit an embarrassment. This isn’t sexist or beside the point. If you are going to invite yourself into the front rooms of the living, then you need to make an effort.” And from his review of ‘Meet The Romans’: “Mary Beard should be kept away from cameras altogether. She’s this far from being the subject of a Channel 4 dating documentary [The Undateables].”

I’m not saying you’re wrong, just that at this point and in that context she may well find it to be both more generous.

Yes, people seem to have forgotten how objectionable the views of Gill actually were. I recall Gill writting a long defense of Enoch Powell as part of a TV review, saying Britain was wrong to give India independence.

He also mounted several attacks on the BBC Famine drama “The Hanging Gale” ,and saying the Irish had

If she had won any three of those states, she would be president-elect. Is there any reasonable doubt that Putin/Comey made the difference?..
the result was nonetheless illegitimate in important ways; the victor was rejected by the public, and won the Electoral College only thanks to foreign intervention and grotesquely inappropriate, partisan behavior on the part of domestic law enforcement.”

http://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/trump-isolates-himself-with-c-i-a-attack

On the Intercept, Jeremy Scahill says ” The current discourse on this issue is plagued by partisan gibberish — there is a disturbing trend emerging that dictates that if you don’t believe Russia hacked the election or if you simply demand evidence for this tremendously significant allegation, you must be a Trump apologist or a Soviet agent.
The reality, however, is that Trump’s reference to the Iraq War and the debacle over weapons of mass destruction is both utterly cynical and a perfectly valid point. U.S. intelligence agencies have repeatedly demonstrated that they regularly both lie and get things horribly wrong. In this case they may well be correct, but they cannot expect Americans to simply take their word for it.”

Given NSA’s extensive trace capability, we conclude that DNC and HRC servers alleged to have been hacked were, in fact, not hacked….
The evidence that should be there is absent; otherwise, it would surely be brought forward, since this could be done without any danger to sources and methods. Thus, we conclude that the emails were leaked by an insider – as was the case with Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning. Such an insider could be anyone in a government department or agency with access to NSA databases, or perhaps someone within the DNC.”

Alas, he is not the US Secretary of State because the writers didn’t want to make the character implausible.

No surprise that Trump is creating a reality horror show; reactionary madmen in power.

” With a reactionary fervor, he is bursting backwards into the future….
Only if there is a superlative to the word “nightmare” can the dictionary provide a description of his bizarre selection of men and women marinated either in corporatism or militarism, with strains of racism, class cruelty and ideological rigidity….
Add these strong-willed ideologues, coupled with Trump’s easily bruised ego, Twitter-tantrums on trivial matters and his penchant to always be the decision-making strongman, and you’ve got the making of an explosive regime with daily eruptions.” Ralph Nader.

Clever words and cunning stunts but you guys have to look globally and the answer is simple go back to your Marxian escapology its purely about production,Russia supplies so much gas to Europe its unbelievable with Germany and Italy the highest importers, this,of course effects the operations of the Bundesbank which in turn effects Military stability of US forces in Germany,in short there are over 30 US military bases in Germany-.why because of Putins Satan 2 missile projects and the need to maintain equilibrium .Putin very recently explained that the arms race is escalating and that America isn’t listening to what Russia is saying, what we have in the world is TV politics what they say through your TV is completely different from what is actually happening behind the scenes and that folks is the REAL world behind the scenes.Basically Putin does not want anything to do with Rothschild the Illuminati or the New World Order and this could be a strong indicator as to why Americas Capitalists have to deal with the Russians which in turn explains possibly why the Russias have had involvement in creating or helping to create a Government they prefer,Putin even before the election indicated he preferred Trump to Clinton but what else would you expect him to say?its no surprise then that Trump has elected a new Secretary of State that comes from a Gas Oil production company…Simply because control over the means of production gives you control over, money which itself is a mere biproduct that becomes worthless when control over production is the key,for more arguments on Marxist theory I would advice readers to delve into The Socialist Party Great Britain their think tanks blow out many folk and are far more democratic than many other websites, socialist party of Russia, socialist party of Ireland, socialist Bertie Ahern it makes no difference to Marxism…..somewhere in London!! p.s don’t forget Yandex email and severs from Russia consuming vast amounts of google time and space.
