A co-operation agreement… January 3, 2017

Depressing to read this, that Vladimir Putin’s party, United Russia and the far-right Austrian party, the FPO (Freedom Party) signed a ‘co-operation’ agreement last week in Moscow. To what purpose?

Austria’s far-right Freedom Party (FPO) offered on Monday to act as a go-between for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin after signing a cooperation agreement with Putin’s party.
Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache and the FPO’s recently defeated presidential candidate Norbert Hofer attended the signing ceremony in Moscow, as did officials of Putin’s United Russia party including Pyotr Tolstoy, a deputy chairman of the lower house of parliament.

Well that’s big of them re Trump. Does he know? Or care?

Re United Russia, that’s a party that in 2009 apparently ‘proclaimed ‘Russian Conservatism’ as its ideology.

‘A spokesman for President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team denied Thursday that Trump’s incoming national security adviser ever met with the leader of a far-right Austrian political party at Trump Tower, as the politician had claimed…
Even if Strache lied about meeting with Flynn, it seems like a stretch for Miller to argue that the incoming national security adviser disavows the viewpoints of groups like the Austrian Freedom Party, which pushes many of the same policies as the European politicians that Trump himself counts as allies.”

Memories of the Nazi-Soviet pact?

“Memories of the Nazi-Soviet pact?”

What?? Putin’s Russia isn’t the USSR (I am a critic of Staliinism BTW).

Putin is probably ideologically comfortable with the Austrian far right, he probably shares their nationalistic outlook, amongst other things. Plus they are probably playing the geo-political game.

Why paleoconservatives and the alt-right love Putin:

many civilizational conservatives, who once opposed the Soviet Union because of its atheism, now view Putin’s Russia as Christianity’s front line against the new civilizational enemy: Islam. Among the alt-right, Putin is a very popular man. He’s popular because he resists the liberal, cosmopolitan values that Muslims supposedly exploit to undermine the West. Richard Spencer, who was until recently married to a pro-Putin Russian writer, has called Russia the “sole white power in the world.” Matthew Heimbach, another prominent figure in the alt-right, recently told Business Insider that “Russia is the leader of the free world.” In 2013, Pat Buchanan penned a column entitled, “Is Vladimir Putin a paleoconservative? In the culture war for mankind’s future, is he one of us?”….Trump is building on this shift to recast GOP foreign policy. He’s moving it away from an ideological confrontation with authoritarian Russia and toward a civilizational conflict with Islam.

The U.S intelligence agencies are on the neocon side with their assertion that Russia hacked Podesta’s emails.

After Assange’s interview with Hannity, Sarah Palin is now praising Assange.

Trump has again obliged with another Freudian-slip tweet, typoing ‘Assuage’ before correcting to ‘Assange’

Will Trump continue to defy the 17 U.S intelligence agencies?
(Maybe the ‘alleged’ 17, as no one appears able to name all 17. Perhaps some are so secret they cannot be named)

Don’t forget Putins and Russia’s close cooperation and friendship with Israel and Netanyahu- not that anyone seems to care
