Well that’s one intelligence briefing I’ll bet he didn’t miss… January 11, 2017

CNN reported on Tuesday the FBI was still investigating the credibility of the documents [alleging secret contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow and that Russian intelligence had personally compromising material on the president-elect himself.] but added that the intelligence chiefs had included a summary of the material in a secret briefing on Russian interference in the election delivered last week to Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

‘CNN said the FBI is investigating the credibility and accuracy of these allegations, which are based primarily on information from Russian sources, but has not confirmed many essential details in the memos about Trump.

Trump has taken to Twitter, his favoured method of communication, to post a message. It says, in capital letters:  “FAKE NEWS – A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!”

‘The issue of foreign influence on a US president has alarmed much of the political class in the US’

“David Corn, the Mother Jones reporter who broke the story months ago, wrote on Twitter that he chose not to publish the memos because he could not confirm the allegations being made in them.”

“Not how journalism works: Here’s a thing that might or might not be true, without supporting evidence; decide for yourself if it’s legit,” tweeted Brad Heath, an investigative reporter for USA Today. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/jan/10/buzzfeed-publishes-donald-trump-russia-documents-ethics-questions have Buzzfeedd lowered themselves to Trumps standards?

A neocon view:

“This could either be a Watergate-style scandal that engulfs the Trump presidency or a “Hitler Diaries”-style hoax, or anything in between….
the questionable character of this dossier can be used to impugn the integrity of the American intelligence community, even though it was not the source….
Mr. Trump himself is doing nothing to dispel suspicions with his hyperbolic attacks and his denials that he has business interests in Russia — when his dealings there go back decades….
At the same time that Mr. Trump continues to exhibit paranoia about American intelligence agencies, he displays a trust verging on gullibility in the mendacious and murderous government of President Vladimir V. Putin. “…
The fact that Mr. Trump seems to give greater credence to the Kremlin than to United States intelligence agencies is precisely what has set off so much speculation about his real motives in cozying up to Mr. Putin….
Mr. Trump appears to be infatuated with the autocrat in the Kremlin….
If it persists in office, Mr. Trump’s slavish devotion to the Russian strongman will continue to raise questions about the exact nature of their relationship. If the president-elect wants to put such suspicions to rest, he should get as tough with the Kremlin as he vows to do with America’s other enemies.’ Max Boot.

“personally compromising material…”

If true, the flaw in that plan is assuming Trump is capable of feeling shame and guilt. Still it does remind me of an amusing anecdote attributed to Lyndon Johnson:

“A group were opposed to a popular Texas sherriff running for re-election. Their leaders suggest spreading the rumour that the man “f*cks pigs”. Someone protested. “You know he doesn’t do that!” “I know,” said the first man. “But let’s make the son of a bitch deny it”

The CIA and the US corporate media told a pack of lies about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and then launched a war which all but destroyed the Middle East, led to the death of hundreds of thousands of people, a war strongly supported by Clinton who during the election campaign wanted to go to war with Russia. On Morning Ireland there were two Clinton supporters supporting the US corporate media and the CIA. Now I am not saying the RTE Morning Ireland team are working for the CIA, but if I did put put out a press statement saying that at least 10-15% of the news staff were working for the CIA would they have to deny it?

Who you gonna trust, the CIA or Donald Trump?

Hillary Clinton’s political career is over.

Anti-War activists should rather, direct their fire at Trump and his nuclear proliferation policy, and his team of warmongers, especially Steve Bannon, who shares the neo-cons’ belligerent Islamophobia:

“Last week’s intelligence report on Russian hacking brought the Republican regulars, like John McCain and Lindsey Graham, into direct conflict with the ethno-nationalist populists. Trump planted himself firmly in the latter camp, and dragged Fox News and a surprising number of congressional Republicans with him….
When Bannon, Michael Flynn and others try to make Trump into a revolutionary foreign policy president, they will be taking on the entire foreign policy establishment under a leader who may sympathize with them, but is inattentive, unpredictable and basically uninterested in anything but his own status at the moment.”

In the battle for Trump’s brain,(assuming such an organ exists) the response of the left should be ‘ a plague on both houses’.
