As always, following on Dr. X’s suggestion, it’s all yours, “announcements, general discussion, whatever you choose”, feel free.

Well, we`ve made it past the silly season, again. Is it me or does 2017 and it`s portents blow the ill wind?

In other words are things about to get a lot worse both nationally and internationally?

Or, ignoring all the fake news stuff, are we about to witness some serious changes for the better? Is there an election on the horizon here and what changes for the better, if any, can happen?

Is there any hope at all ?

The ‘fake news’ palaver got me thinking. . . and I remembered something from the early 1990s.

The Irish Times – and maybe other Dublin papers as well, but definitely the IT – ran a huge story claiming that the Provies had been trying to bring in a big arms shipment via Poland, but that the Polish police had intercepted them.

As I said it was a big story – at least two pages inside, and on the front page too.

About a month later (if memory serves), the IT ran a short column inch concerning a statement issued by the Polish police – a statement in which they said that they had no knowledge of this case, and that they had not intercepted anything.

At least, that’s how I remember it. Does anyone else remember this one?

Can anyone even make sense of this?

Home Office minister Robert Goodwill told peers that the “immigration skills levy” could be introduced for EU migrants and would “be helpful to British workers who feel they are overlooked” in favour of migrants.

Very sad to hear Mark Fisher has died. Capitalism Realism was one of the best peices of social criticism of the century so far.
