Workers news! Something to find some hope in… March 1, 2017

We have our usual post later in the week looking for signs of hope, but here’s an early one… in the SBP it is reported in relation to the Tesco strike that:

Business in certain stores was understood to have fallen by as much as 80% while the pickets were in place, according to a source close to the dispute. Even stores where there was no picket were said to have lost as much as 30% of business on certain days, said the source.

That 30% is an interesting statistic. I’m presuming that none of us would shop in a store where some outlets were on strike, but that so many would feel similarly suggests that not all sense of solidarity has been lost.

Think Tesco is like Dunnes and nurses strikes in this – so many people have worked there / know people who worked there that they are instinctively supportive of strikes in the place.
